2PM Matinee just added!
The Whitlams with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra storms to a third show in the first weekend of Spring, with a matinee performance on Saturday 6 September on sale now.
The concert will feature the highlights of its long history of orchestral collaborations which began in 2004, from Peter Sculthorpe's gorgeous string interludes to rousing versions of hits like "Blow Up the Pokies", to the seamy Hitchcockian brass of MSO principal conductor Benjamin Northey's three arrangements.
In addition, Tim Freedman has commissioned four new orchestral arrangements from both the back catalogue and the two recent albums, "Sancho" (2022), and the Americana influenced, "Kookaburra" (2024).
Tim Freedman says, "What a weekend to look forward to through the winter months. Getting to sing in front of the MSO three times in a weekend will be a thrill, and the new arrangements will surprise longterm fans."
The Whitlams' last three tours to Melbourne have been sellout standing shows at The Forum, The Northcote Theatre, and a four night run at The Corner Hotel. This Hamer Hall show is the first seated concert since 2017.
"...the kind of arrangements which assume intelligence not just on stage but in the audience. It's wit and risk and flair." Sydney Morning Herald
"...superbly orchestrated with a sophistication of sound rare in a pop gig." The Age
